In September 2013 the school was awarded the Sustainable Level in TfL’s School Travel Accreditation scheme: STARS (Sustainable Travel: Active, Responsible, Safe). STARS is Transport for London’s (TfL) travel plan accreditation programme. STARS provides a framework and guidance for nurseries, schools, colleges and academies to help them put an accredited travel plan in place. It rewards educational establishments for their achievements and commitment to encourage walking, cycling and road safety. We built on this early recognition with increased initiatives and have been awarded the next Silver level in 2014.
The school made a successful bid to the London Mayor’s School Excellence Fund in October 2013, to develop a research project with 10 other schools in our emerging project to improve reading standards through the Reciprocal Reading approach.
Our school choir was awarded a Bronze award in the Stratford East Choral Competition, in February 2014.
The school was been awarded the status of a National Teaching School in April 2014 by the DfE. Teaching schools are outstanding schools that work with others to provide high-quality training and development to new and experienced school staff. They are part of the government’s plan to give schools a central role in raising standards by developing a self-improving and sustainable school-led system.
Our work in developing Science education has been recognised in 2014 with the Silver level award in the Primary Science Quality Mark.
The Nora Dunmore Trophy is awarded to the Redbridge school that has the most recorded participants in the Redbridge Libraries summer reading scheme. Gearies Primary school was awarded this in 2014.
